Asus launched the ZenFone 8 series for the first time today, and its vanilla model has a very small screen that can meet the needs of 2021. Its diagonal size is 5.9 inches; however, it is still a high-end Samsung E4 AMOLED panel, which means that it will have a higher pixel density compared to the latest average FHD flagship product.
Its manufacturer also has good news for audio enthusiasts: it equips the 8 with “linear” speakers with Cirrus Logic dual mono amplifiers that support Dirac HD sound. Not only that, but you can also use the headphone jack, which also means that FM radio may be available in some markets.
The Type 8 is also different from the 2021 standard, it has dual rear cameras. However, because its 64MP main shooter also has a wide-angle function and its auxiliary lens has an ultra-wide angle, Asus can feel that all the iterations of its traditional photography series cover all the basic components.
The compactness of the ZenFone 8 can cause a downside, and that’s the battery life. ASUS has been able to install a 4000 mAh battery, which can be fully charged with 30 watts (W), which is the opposite of the boost speed of other larger high-end mobile devices.
In addition, its front panel is also equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus, which has a durability of IP68. The 6GB RAM base phone model is rugged and durable, starting at € 599 (roughly $ 723), though there are 8GB to 12GB options as well.
Once again, Asus has upped its bid for the mini-trend with the ZenFone 8 Flip. This is a full update to the 7 Pro in 2020, except for the updated processor – Snapdragon 888 is the same as the 8, all specs are the same (including foldable camera sensor). This means that its 6.67-inch FHD AMOLED screen is still at 90Hz with a 5,000mAh battery (although smaller devices in the same class are clocked at 120Hz). It also runs ZenUI 8 based on Android 11, as does ZenUI 8 with 8.
Asustek announced that its 8GB RAM SKU will start at 799 Euros (approximately US $ 965). ZenFone 8 and 8 Flip are available in silver or black and can be ordered from OEM websites in Taiwan and Europe.
