The Plague is Charlie Polinger’s first feature film. It will be presented in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
American director Charlie Polinger will present his first feature film, The Plague, in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. This selection marks Polinger’s debut on the Cannes scene, following several acclaimed projects on the independent festival circuit. The film stars Joel Edgerton, Everett Blunck, and Elliott Heffernan.

As a reminder, the Un Certain Regard section is a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival that showcases bold and formally “different” films. In addition to competing for the UCR jury awards, The Plague is also in the running for the Caméra d’Or 2025, awarded to one of the first films in the selection of this 78th edition of the festival, across all categories.

“The Plague explores the sometimes difficult relationships between children at school. Or in this case, on a water polo team, around what resembles this harassment and violence that must be corrected from a very young age,” explained Thierry Frémaux during the Cannes press conference.
